Amesbury Treasures Tour Stop - Friends Meeting House @ Friends Meetinghouse | Amesbury | Massachusetts | United States

Celebrate Amesbury’s 350th Anniversary with this tour! Amesbury Friends Meeting is delighted to have our historic Meeting House as one of the Amesbury Treasures tour stops. We will welcome you, conduct short tours, and answer questions – and we might wear historic Quaker dress too.

Amesbury Treasures is a partnership of seventeen unique historic sites managed by 11 organizations. Together, they cover four centuries of Amesbury’s rich history, and as individual sites offer a deeper look into specific eras and aspects. A distinguishing aspect is that the construction of our current meetinghouse was supervised by John Greenleaf Whittier, the famous poet, and abolitionist. Whittier’s commitment to social justice was clearly influenced by his spiritual identity as a Quaker. His home, a few blocks away also on Friend Street, is now the Whittier Home Museum and also one of the Amesbury Treasures.
